Orientation

Who can treat you in Colorado?

The person treating you online is based elsewhere. Or a local clinic says a pharmacy will ship the medicine. Each name needs its own check.

A clinician is a health worker who checks your health or treats you.

An example of telehealth is a screen visit: care is provided while the people are apart.

The rules and licence information below were checked on September 26, 2026.

Online care and in-person care use different permissions

For an online visit, Colorado’s rules apply when you are in Colorado.

Colorado opened its online-only registration on January 1, 2026. A clinician with a licence from another state can apply for it.

That registration alone does not allow the clinician to see you in person in Colorado.

Controlled drugs are medicines on government lists with extra prescribing rules. That online-only registration does not allow a clinician to prescribe them. Testosterone is on the federal list. Most peptides and weight-loss medicines are not on that federal list. State lists can differ, so ask about the exact medicine.

This restriction belongs to that registration route; it is not a ban on every Colorado prescriber.

Ask which Colorado permission the clinician uses, then look for the matching name and licence type.

Which board holds the record?

Doctors and physician assistants receive their licences from the Colorado Medical Board.

A physician assistant is a licensed clinician who works with a Colorado doctor under a written agreement.

Nurses, including nurse practitioners, come under the state nursing board.

A nurse practitioner has extra training for care beyond ordinary nursing. In Colorado, this nurse can earn permission to prescribe medicine.

Ask whether the nurse practitioner treating you has permission to prescribe.

The pharmacy board licenses pharmacies and pharmacists.

These boards sit within Colorado’s Department of Regulatory Agencies, often shortened to DORA.

Use the state’s name search for the person or pharmacy; a website badge is a different thing.

Search a Colorado licence

The public record can show whether the board has acted against a doctor for breaking rules. If it shows no such action, that is not a rating of the care.

Check who fills the prescription

A prescription is a licensed prescriber’s order for a medicine.

Ask for the pharmacy’s name, even when you pay through an online care service.

An out-of-state pharmacy needs Colorado registration before shipping prescription medicine into Colorado.

Compounding is making a medicine to order; it does not mean that every ingredient is allowed.

Colorado law lets licensed pharmacies supply made-to-order medicines to licensed clinicians only when state and federal law allow it.

It does not make a peptide legal if federal law forbids it.

Ask the pharmacist whether the exact ingredient is allowed under both sets of rules.
